Group Analysis
Group therapy offers an opportunity to see yourself through interaction with others, find support, and understand your patterns of behaviour in society.
Why a Group?
When several different people react to your words, feelings, and actions, it has a significantly more powerful impact than the reaction of a single person. This helps to better understand yourself and your relationships with others, and to see the consequences of communicating with them more realistically.
How Does the Group Work?
The success of its work depends on several factors. The main ones are:
mutual trust among group participants;
participation of people with diverse life experiences;
shared group goals achieved through collective effort;
agreement of all participants to adhere to certain rules.
During a group session, a free-flowing discussion takes place among the participants. This allows for observing and analysing how each participant builds their relationships — both with the group as a whole and with its individual members. Each participant enters the group with their own difficulties and their own life story.
What is Explored in the Group?
RE-EVALUATION OF EARLY RELATIONSHIPS
Group participants may recreate relationships similar to those in their own families; however, this time, these relationships are lived through in the group, which is safe for them and more likely to produce a desirable outcome.
WORKING WITH PROJECTIONS AND TRANSFERENCE
Participants have many opportunities to experience different feelings towards other group members and the facilitator in the transference process; they can work through these feelings, deepen self-understanding, and explore their own projections.
EXPLORING DEFENCES
Group participants can achieve a deeper insight into how their psychological defences and resistance operate.
HONEST FEEDBACK
Group participants receive feedback from one another.
The Mirror of Relationships
“The group is a mirror in which you can see your relationships with other people in real life.”
Results of the Work
The outcome of long-term work in group analysis is that a person:
finds it easier to interact with the world around them
improves interpersonal relationships
resolves internal conflicts
gains a sense of grounding and stability in life
What Does Group Psychotherapy Strive For?
It facilitates personal growth, a realistic understanding of oneself and others, teaches authentic relationships with other people, and helps resolve personal and interpersonal problems.
The Setting and Rules
The effectiveness of group work depends directly on the safety of each participant. This protection and the stability of the process are sustained by clear rules of interaction:
Confidentiality
Everything discussed in the group, including the names and stories of the participants, remains strictly within the group.
Regularity
Group work is built on the continuity and stability of the process. Regular attendance is mandatory, and missed sessions are paid for to preserve your place and the integrity of the group.
Boundaries of Communication Outside the Group
Participants are advised not to communicate or maintain relationships outside the sessions while group work is ongoing. This preserves the purity of the process and ensures a safe environment for the honest expression of feelings during meetings.
Free Expression
To speak everything that comes to mind, even if it seems unimportant or awkward. At the same time, it is vital to speak specifically about one's own feelings and experiences, without turning to open verbal aggression, accusations, or attacks on other group members.
Protection Against Acting Out
In the group, it is important to express one's emotions, impulses, and conflicts solely through words, rather than actions.

The Facilitator's Role in the Group
The facilitator's task is to accompany the process, analyse the interaction between participants, and help the group understand internal processes, while ensuring the conditions in which each participant can safely open up and explore themselves in relation to others.
